The power of Vulnerability in the village
by Mareli Mosca
They say, “It takes a village to raise a child,” but no one tells you how hard it is to find that village or how hard it is to let yourself be seen in it.
Somewhere along the way, modern motherhood became a solo mission. We traded communal kitchens for isolated routines, shared wisdom for endless Googling, and coffee with a friend for quiet tears in the bathroom.
But here's the truth: motherhood was never meant to be done alone.
The village isn’t just a poetic concept , it’s a lifeline. It’s the neighbor who watches your toddler for ten minutes while you shower. The mom friend who texts back at 2 a.m. The online group where someone simply says, “Me too.” But villages don’t just appear. They are built. Brick by brick. Story by story. Vulnerability by vulnerability.
Vulnerability is the Invitation
When we show up in our messy, unfinished, unsure selves , we’re not being weak. We’re lighting the way for another mom to say, “I thought I was the only one.”
Every time you admit you’re overwhelmed, every time you ask for help, every time you let someone in , you’re giving silent permission for others to do the same. Vulnerability cracks the door open. It makes space for empathy. It builds trust. And trust builds villages.

Why the Village Matters
Because the load is too heavy to carry alone. Because strength isn’t pretending we’ve got it all together , it’s knowing who to lean on when we don’t. Because when moms support moms, something sacred happens: shame loses its grip and grace takes its place.
The village is where we’re reminded that we’re not failing , we’re just human. And that’s more than enough.
How to Start Building Yours
Go first. Be the one to share honestly, even if your voice shakes.
Be consistent. Show up — even when it feels small. Community is built through small, repeated acts of showing up.
Listen without fixing. Sometimes the most healing thing is just being heard.
Offer what you can. A cup of tea. A meme. A moment of understanding.
Receive with gratitude. Let others help you too, that’s part of the village rhythm.
Let’s normalize needing each other. Let’s honor the courage it takes to be real. Let’s rebuild the village one vulnerable moment at a time.
Because you're not alone. And you were never meant to be.
